 Sedation Dentistry in Highland, MI

Relieve Your Dental Anxiety

Does the thought of visiting the dentist make you nervous? The dental office is a scary place for many people, and some even avoid going altogether because of their fear. Dental anxiety is a common fear, and approximately 30 to 40 million people avoid dental treatments because of it.

Luckily, Dr. Allain can provide you with sedation dentistry to ease your nerves. This treatment is administered in multiple forms and will make you feel completely relaxed during dental procedures.

Benefits of Sedation Dentistry

Your oral hygiene affects your overall health as well, so it’s important to visit your dentist regularly. Dr. Allain will offer you sedation to ensure you’re able to comfortably receive the care you need.

This treatment is great for patients who suffer from the following issues:

  • Gag reflex — gagging easily when dental tools are inside your mouth
  • Dental Phobia — fear of the dentist
  • Low pain threshold-– can’t handle pain or have sensitive teeth
  • Trouble sitting still– typically children or people with attention deficit disorders
  • An extensive procedure — a lengthy treatment such as dental implant placement

IV Sedation

Dr. Allain will provide IV sedation for those who want to feel completely relaxed and not remember any part of the procedure. While you’ll still be conscious, you won’t be able to feel, hear, taste, or smell anything. This method is administered directly to your vein and begins working quickly.

Since the effects of IV sedation are stronger than others, you’ll want to make sure to have someone drive you home after the procedure.

Oral Sedation

We also offer oral sedation for those who have a fear of needles or are looking for a lighter dose of sedation. This method will be given to you through the form of a pill, and you won’t feel any pain or fear during the entire treatment. We’ll either have you take it before or after you arrive at our office depending on the procedure.

You’ll be awake during the procedure, and the effects will wear off quickly for most people. However, you may want to have someone drive you home after if you’re still feeling groggy

Nitrous Oxide

This sedation is also known as minimal sedation or laughing gas. It’s provided to you through a mask that goes over your nose. Your dentist is able to adjust the level of the gas during the procedure if needed. This method wears off the quickest, so you’ll be able to drive yourself home after.

Feel Comfortable at the Dentist

If you experience any fear during dental procedures, sedation will make the process more tolerable. Contact us at (248) 876-3967 or fill out our contact form to see which method is right for you.
